Noobcraft II - Week one write up

Bertman / Mar 11, 2014
GAME 1 : RETURN OF THE GUDRAN

This is an epos of unseen proportions, no six part starwars franchise but REAL BUSINESS.
That’s right ladies and gents! NOOBCRAFT II is a reality and how better to start it off with a grudgematch between Tolga the former champion and Gudran in the underdogposition (it has been told he likes it that way huehuehue)
What do our two contestants have in store for each other?

Gudran opens with a sneaky banshee opening and Tolga does what Tolga does and that is starsence
defending! Turrets is what he needed? Turrets is what he got! Linu’s Turkish streamentourage goes crazy! And after that one asks what the purpose is of this game….

Tolga holds the bansheeopening easily and proceeds to expand.
Gudran being the hardheaded warrior he is uses his only remaining banshee to buy more time

It is said that Gudran’s improvement is uncanny since last tournament and he’s out for blood
The banshee attacks the army and is finally stopped by a heroic autoturret.

After this both playes saturate their expo’s and build up there forces, the only problem was
where Guddy placed his fucking waypoint hilarity struck vent as a lost Viking and foolhardy tank get brutally murdered by Tolga’s forces saying : Yeah I’ll take that win right there.

Shortly after this nice grab Tolga pushes out with a murdersquad of Vikings to wreck mayhem onto unsuspecting minerallines and buildings.

Only thing that stood in their way was offcourse an mighty terran army of tanks and Vikings!

Both sides take losses and the pressure gets heavier. How do you scout without taking more losses?
SCANNERSWEEP, scannersweeps all over the place
Gudran discovers a third base.

This being close to Gudran being maxed out on Tanks, Vikings and marines made him grab his force
and push forward into his nemises base.

YEAH 26 tanks everybody and it doesn’t stop here.
The engagement of mechpower vs endgamestyle tolga with Battlecruisers and Thors to hold or be broken by the push.

When the dust settles all that remains are a gazillion siegetanks and a couple of Vikings to push forward. They are met however by THOR IS HERE but with twenty million tanks they evaporated into thin air.

Nerves of steel fabricate the one counter to this many siegetanks => Battlecruiser operational, one to push back the tankoffensive.

Tolga makes a final effort to mass an army and pushes.

Though the difference had been made and Tolga’s forces were outnumbered too greatly.

And to finish it up and scannersweeptrick with siegetanks and GG (however this is not said nor written)

This concludes game number one – Tune in again for Revenge of the GUD.

GAME NUMBER 2 : Revenge of the Gud

The game starts with a taunt going to Gud to bring it and brought it he did when he opened with WIDOWMINES
crazy tactics unseen since WhiteRa’s time! (Russian SC2 player known for doing crazy shit)

On a side note! Hanging out on vent and following streams allowed our corporate genius to learn
Turkish at a rapid pace. Bala the multicultural Terran enlightens the group with a random Turkish message.

Hide and seek hasn’t ever been so dangerous as when you place a mine under a tree …. Lets count!

I’ll say this! This is a rine living on the Edge 

Tolga somehow somewhere managed to sneak an army beyond the reach of the widowmine
and pushed an assault onto Gudran’s already set up siegeline. Things were looking grim for our Turkish comrade as his army was thorn to shreds

A lesson to be learnt to dwarf warriors all over the interwebs is that these rocks can be destroyed to make it easier to defend your third .

Known for his stubbornness and fancy vikingplay Tolga launches another attack on Gudran but unfortunately lands right again in the siegeline and is blown to bits.

At long last a scan blasts the widow into oblivion

Oh shit there’s another mine, better park my army right on top of it to cushen the blow
not the best tactic but these brave rines took one for the time to colorfully pinpoint the location of the mine.

Being on three base a long time the engagement comes and Gudrans forces are twice that of
of inventive Tolga.
Alas there was no trickery, no battlecruiser to save him now.

Gudran’s tankscanning is starting to become known across the galaxy as he takes game 2 in this amazing series.

Noobcraft II Round 1: Bertman vs Linu

As a veteran player, Bert was the obvious favourite. Linu did admit he hadn't practiced since last tournament. The expectations were set.

With Bert going hatch first, it's going to be a slow(ish) game. Linu starts out with a factory, and goes on to make widowmines as to defend his base, and does so successfully.

Bert continues to deny Linu's natural. Once he finally does get it up, bert knocks it back down.

Being stuck on one base most of the time, Linu has to spend a lot of resources on defensive structures and mines. He's walling himself in solid, but Bert's muta's are hurting the main and natural everywhere. Meanwhile, Bert has vision everywhere due to one hero changeling.

With some excellent micro, Bert is able to pick up minekills left and right without losing too much from his mutaball. In the meantime, he's banking minerals and gas like a madman. As Linu continues to defend, Bert finds his one opening into Linu's natural, destroying all SCV's.

Linu has a bank to stay alive on, but at this point, he's all mined out. Going back and forth, Bert is preparing his final push through Linu's defenses. Knowing he's got his handicap, he is prepared to re-max with his now massive bank should Linu hold off. Bert goes in, and in an explosive push, breaks through the defenses!

At this point, Linu called the game. Bert wins the first match!

Noobcraft II Round 1: Bertman vs Linu Game 2

As the second game started, Linu was prepared to try something different. Different, however, does not always mean good. It results in the stranges build and setup we've seen in a good while. As pictured below:

Meanwhile, expecting no early agression, Bert goes greedy and takes two expansions right off the bat.

At the same time, Linu hunkers down and prepares for a frontal assault. A minefield unfolds in front of his natural, with marines to back it up.

Little does he know, however, that Bert is preparing a sneak attack at the back of his base. As the onlookers watched the research for Nidus Worms complete, Linu's game was sure to be over soon. In a corner of Linu's main, where he had no vision, the Nidus Worm pops.

With a massive amount of zerglings streaming out, and no reaction for Linu, it's open season for the lings. Linu's main gets slaughtered.

GG. Bert takes the series!

Noobcraft II Round 1: Baladru vs San

The last match up of the evening was a between Baladru and San, both hopefuls for the Final Four at the end of the season.

Game 1

The game started off quite standard as both players went for a quick expansion. The first deviation of standard play was shown by San as he went for a quick Roach Warren as Baladru went for a reaper to do some additional scouting.

Bala’s reaper was easily picked off however and Bala had to enter the mid game in the dark of San’s intentions.

This would be his downfall as San had not only rushed out Roaches, he also rushed out burrow and burrow movement for his army.

San’s balls of steel where shown as he burrow-moved his roaches pasts Bala’s impressive defenses right into his main mineral line and made quick work of Bala’s scv’s.

This is what balls of steel look like, a single turret or scan could have wasted San’s army in an instant

Bala’s army, completely blindsided trickled into Sans kill zone and got annihilated inside his own base.

Victory and defeat in a game of Starcraft can be as small as turret for detection.

Baladru was poised to take the first game but a simple oversight or lack of scouting cost him the game.

Game 2

With one game up, San had an appetite for something more sneaky. Entombed Valley is a perfect map for early Mutalisks as they can easily dance between the natural and the main forcing the Terran army to run around in circles.

For the first 15 minutes of the game San did not only that, he also expanded twice and powered his economy hard, a risky move as one wrong move with the Mutas can cost you the game if you don’t have a standing army behind them.

In the end it paid off as Bala had a hard time dealing with the ever growing Muta cloud and once he had a big enough army of marines to move out, Sans ground army had grown unstoppable.

San’s overwhelming force descending upon the Bala’s unsuspecting army

Winners of the week:

Each week two “winners of the week” will be chosen.

1. Gudran: beating his nemesis in a convincing manner makes Gud the undisputed winner of the week. Right now Gudran has won twice from Tolga, taking the lead in their little rivalry
2. Sharmila: being able to watch everyone play, seeing the weaknesses and strengths in our plays allows him to practice and research builds specifically to counter everyone of us while remaining a mystery himself.

Noobcraft II - Power rankings – week one

Each week these will be adjusted, players are judged by their present form, win streaks, the strength of their opponent and even “swag”.

Good performances against higher ranked players, even losses (as long as it’s close) are valued high.

1. Gudran – Beating the Noobcraft I champion Tolga in a convincing way puts him on the highest spot of our power rankings.

2. San – Convincingly beating Bala, a (former) silver Terran player has San come in second on the power rankings.

3. Bertman – beating Linu handily in two games earns him the third spot on the list

4. Bala – albeit losing to San in two short games, both of them where quite close and small build order adjustments could have won him both games

This list is pure speculation by the writer and expect switch ups each week

Game of the week:

Game one between Tolga and Gudran

A strong macro game from both players where until the final battle the outcome was uncertain.
